- Will we need a fishing license?
-
Yes, the D.N.R. requires anyone
17 or older to have a valid fishing license on their person plus
an all species license or a one-day license for Salmon or Trout.
- Does your boat have a bathroom?
Jack-A-Row is furnished with an
enclosed toilet in the cabin.
- What equipment do I need to
bring?
Your Lake Michigan sports fishing charter trip includes all
necessary fishing equipment.
- How and where do we clean the
fish?
Your charter trip includes
cleaning and filleting your fish.
- Are alcoholic beverages
permitted?
Alcoholic beverages are permitted
on your trip, but we encourage moderation. If anyone in your
group becomes overly intoxicated the charter will be cut short
and the full rate will be incurred by your party. Your safety is
our responsibility. No illegal substances are allowed.
- What will I need to bring on our
fishing charter?
All the fishing equipment is
provided for you, so you’ll only need to bring: food, drinks,
adequate clothing, a cooler to transport your fish home, and a
fishing license. See “What to Bring” on right.
- Will everyone get their own rod?
Absolutely everyone on your trip
will get their own rod. You can do as much or as little as you
want. We are your hosts and your satisfaction is our goal. If
you want to do all the work or just sit back and watch your
crew, it is up to you.
- No experience?
We can help you,
teach you . . . whatever your pleasure.
- What about motion sickness?
Over the counter motion sickness
product such as Dramamine can be found at most pharmacies. If
you’re not sure, bring it along just in case. If you have
concerns about these products consult your physician.
- What can I expect on a Lake
Michigan Fishing Charter?
If you’ve never had the
opportunity to fish in Lake Michigan you should really give it a
try! It’s an exhilarating experience. There is nowhere else you
can go in the Midwest and consistently catch the size and amount
of fish that you can on Lake Michigan!
- What if I have never been fishing
before?
No problem! The fish we catch can
be pretty big, but our equipment is sturdy and easy to use. We
give lots of expert instruction and great tips on fighting the
fish, but feel free to ask questions.... I want you to get the
most out of your trip!
- What kind of fish will we catch?
We fish for steelhead, brown
trout, lake trout and king salmon.
The size, species, and
numbers of fish will depend when you take your charter. As a
rule, in the spring, we catch large quantities of fish, but
smaller in size. In the summer, we catch larger fish and more
variety of species. In the fall, typically we catch the largest
fish of the year, trophy fish!
While fishing conditions do
change, we have the equipment to ensure your fishing success.
- What kind of boat will be fishing
on?
Jack-A-Row is the sport fishing
KING. Our boat is a Phoenix Tournament II Pro, built in Florida,
and designed for ocean sportfishing. It has twin 260 hp engines
for safety, and solid design for stability. It features modern
scientific electronic equipment to accurately fish the
bathymetry of Lake Michigan. It is properly outfitted with all
of the Coast Guard requirements for safety, is Michigan DNR
inspected, and properly insured for commercial professional sportfishing.
- How about the captain - what are
his credentials?
Your captain is a U.S. Coast
Guard licensed captain and master of motor vessels upon the
Great Lakes. As a FAA IFR rated pilot, he is trained in weather
forecasting and weather event phenomena. Your safety and
comfort is his #1 goal. He has fished for over 35 years in several
states, throughout the Gulf Coast, and extensively
in Canada.
- What if the weather is bad?
In the event that your captain
determines the lake is too rough to fish, we will do their best
to contact you in advance and re-schedule your date. However,
there may be days when this decision is made at the dock.
Another date will be booked and your deposit will be forwarded
to that date. We do fish in the rain, so be prepared and bring
your rain gear!
- How do I get to the Jack-A-Row
Charters boat dock?
